I went to see this yesterday and I'm glad I did. The sequel to the first Mr. Bean movie has taken so long but it's definitely worth the wait.
Basically Mr. Bean won a free trip to the beach so he had to travel. But knowing him, there sure are lots of unfortunate events along his way.
If you compare the first movie with this one, you will notice that there's quite a difference with how the the plot focuses on the character. For the first film, Mr. Bean was portrayed as a very unorthodox problem solver while in this current installment of the Bean movies, Mr. Bean is portrayed as a weird Englishman who reacts in a funny way to bad luck, although he did find some weird solutions to some of his predicaments. At the same time, the first one was more of a "talkie" than a "movie". It's full of dialogue unlike in this second film which is very heavy on motion and pictures. The second one actually represents Mr. Bean more because he is already a funny guy just by his behavior and facial reactions. He does not have to talk to be funny. His comedy is very universal since if you think about it, language is a barrier and actions do speak louder than words, as clicheish as it may sound.
The version I saw on the theatre was an edited one, for some bogacious reason. The laptop scene was missing. Uggh.
I find it idiotic though that when Mr. Bean got stuck in this cabin, he lifted everything up and walked on the road with that hideous thing when in fact he could knock the whole thing over and crawl out from the bottom. Something like that. But that's Mr. Bean for you. He can be really stupid unintentionally. [But he definitely surprises. He's a genius too.]
I'm also happy that this movie has become sort of a metafilm, meaning a film within a film.
If you can watch this movie, please do. I'm sure you will laugh your heart out at least once or twice.
